How Crightons are helping the Environment and reducing our Carbon Footprint
Let’s face it, by their nature cars cannot be the most environmentally friendly things in the world, but they are getting better and better and manufacturers are working hard to reduce the impact modern cars have on today’s environment.
At Crightons we are 100% committed to the environment and have been working towards becoming a carbon neutral company for years … in fact when George and Pat Crighton (the founders of the business) retired, they didn’t get a gold watch or a carriage clock for the mantelpiece, they had trees planted.
The idea was born out of the fact that research has shown that five trees equal one car in negating its impact on the environment.
A great deal of research was completed and it was decided, with the help of environmental specialists, that planting oak trees that were indigenous to the area would be the best solution. So began the planting of saplings at Ferry Meadows Park close to the Rowing Lake.
With close on 5000 trees now planted and the local school children participating by growing trees from seed before planting them alongside those planted by Crightons, the woodland is fast becoming a wonderful area of natural beauty that contributes greatly to Peterborough’s ‘Environmental Centre’ goal … an area that is now known as ‘Crightons Wood’.

But it’s more than just planting tree …
what about all the ways in which energy can be saved in a commercial environment such as a vehicle sales and service centre?
And what can you do to contribute?
Right now Crightons are exploring how you can be encouraged to help, perhaps by pledging to replace half a dozen standard light bulbs with energy saving versions for which you might receive service benefits in our workshops

… whatever is decided you can be sure it will benefit you and the environment
… so watch this space.
There are plenty of opportunities and Crightons are exploring all of them …
the recycling of materials used in the service areas, the reduction of power usage by turning off unnecessary lighting and electrical equipment, purchasing highly energy efficient equipment where options are available …
all these things are helping …
and there’s still more that can, and is being, done.
Peterborough Environment City Trust was invited in to complete an audit, they reviewed the entire business and reported back with suggestions of what could be done to move things forward to a plan … the type of lights, the water supply, the recycling
The stated aim is that by January 2010 Crightons of Peterborough will be carbon neutral or better.
